Hair and Makeup - Frequently Asked Questions

How does the stylist know what style is best for me?

All of our stylists are hired and trained on their ability to not only do great hair and makeup but also to help a bride, bridesmaid or mom how to determine the best style for her.  The stylist does this by using a well developed system which takes into consideration many different factors including face shape, hair length and type, style of wedding, client's personal style, clients likes and dislikes among others.

What type of makeup do you use?

We use primarily MAC makeup.  All of our stylists have some other products in their kits that they like such as Bobbi Brown, Clinique, Benefit, Chanel.  But, the majority of all of our makeup is MAC.  We have found through years of trial and error with different makeup lines, that MAC's makeup goes on very light and natural looking (when the right products and techniques are used), the colors are beautiful and foundations match skin tones perfectly, it has incredible staying power and is water proof.

Do you offer Airbrush Makeup?

We do offer airbrush makeup, there is an additional charge of $25.00 for the bride and $10.00 for each bridesmaid.  If you are interested in finding out whether airbrushing is right for you, simply let us know when you book your preview and we will have your stylist bring her airbrush kit.  She can then educate you on the advantages and disadvantages of both traditional and airbrush makeup at the preview so you can both decide what is right for you.

What if I never wear makeup.?

As you can see by the pictures in our portfolio, we are known for doing very light natural makeup.  We want to find that perfect happy medium between looking good for your pictures and looking and feeling beautiful for your family and friends.  That is going to mean something different for everyone.  Our job is to find that perfect look for you.

Don’t I have to wear a lot of makeup for photos?

This is actually a very common misconception.  Yes, if you are doing studio photos under bright studio lighting, then that is the case.  But, for natural lighting (which most wedding photography is) and/or flash photography, a lot of makeup is not needed.

Will the hair and makeup stay all day?

Again, this is a big part of our job and something that a stylist who does not specialize in weddings may not know.  We are going to use the right products and techniques so that your hair and makeup will stay all day AND still look natural.  Everything we use is waterproof or water resistant and we will also educate you on the best choices based on your wedding time of day and location.  Don't worry, you won't get any cakey makeup or crunchy hair with us- yuck!

How long will it take on the wedding day?

It really depends on how many services you are getting done as to how much time we allot.  It is typically a three to four hour time frame maximum for the entire wedding party.  We really have the timing down to a science.  We are going to bring as many stylist and/or assistants as it takes for us to get you done within our allotted time frame.  The bride generally takes 45 minutes per service and the girls approximately 30 minutes per service.  If you are having a very early morning wedding, we typically like to bring more stylists if possible to cut down on your getting ready time, therefore cutting down on your getting up time.

How much experience do the stylists have?

Each girl comes to us with a little bit different experience.  Honestly, at Hair Comes the Bride we look more to a person's talent and personal character rather than experience.  Each and every stylist that joins our team must pass a strict hiring process, is tested and works alongside one of senior stylists "shadowing" her to learn our techniques before she is ever allowed to work with a bride or anyone for that matter.

Will the stylist do more than one style at the preview?

Your stylist is going to consult with you to determine which style is going to be the best based on all of the factors.  We really do try and narrow it down to one particular style.  This is part of the stylist’s job.   If there is ever a time in which we do two different styles on a preview it is usually when a bride is trying to decide between ½ up ½ down and all up.

Can I get hair only or makeup only?

We will come out for hair or makeup only but we require that we do two additional services such as a bridesmaid and/or mom.  We do strongly suggest, if possible, you have the same person and/or company do both hair and makeup.  Again, based on our many years of experience, things run much smoother that way.  Timing is a critical issue on the wedding day and you want to try to do whatever you can to make sure things run smoothly.  Also because of this fact, if the bride is going out to the salon to get the other service done (which we STRONGLY encourage you not to do) we must do our service first.

Will you apply false eyelashes?

Yes, we love false eyelashes and we put them on anyone who is getting makeup done and wants them, free of charge.  If someone is not getting a makeup service with us but still wants false eyelashes, we will do them if we have time for a fee of $10.00.  We supply individual false lashes, we feel as though they are much more natural looking than strip lashes.  If you would prefer strip lashes, you would need to supply those yourself and we would be happy to apply them.

Do you work with hair extensions?

Yes, we can work with any kind of hair extensions as long as they are human hair.  There is no additional charge to work with hair extensions on a bride.  If a bride wants us to work with "day of" clip in hair extensions, depending on the style and the amount of work involved, she may be subject to a $25.00 charge on the day of the wedding.  The better quality the hair extensions the easier they are to work with and the better they will look.  We offer gorgeous, high quality hair extensions on our sister site Aisle Style Beauty.

Will you come out just for bridesmaids?

Yes, there is a 5-service minimum.  We require a non-refundable deposit to secure the wedding date since no preview is being done.  Please call or email for specific pricing.   The deposit is applied towards your wedding day total.
